Samvad Community Video Unit (CVU)

Samvad Video Unit

Samvad Video Unit has 8 community producers, representing four major slums clusters of Ahmedabad. They have been trained in all aspects of film making to promote awareness and advocacy through a monthly video magazine.

The CVU provides a platform to slum residents to voice their opinions, raise issues or problems and allow free discussion to promote change in their communities.

The films produced are then screened to the local public through wide screen projectors and the distribution of VCD/DVDs in self-help groups and NGO networks.

7 video magazines have been screened so far with an average of about 6000-7000 persons viewing every film which amounts to more than 50,000 persons during the last one year.

The CVU-URC tie-up

One of the important objectives of the URC is to do advocacy of issues concerning the community. The CVU would act as an advocacy tools to show the issues of community through video screening. The CVU would spread awareness on different issues that the URC advocates. While the URC will act as a link between different sectors, the CVU will be the medium of linkage with different sectors. Both the CVU and the URC works for the community through the community.
